I have someone who needs a Pentium II processor and 1 GB of RAM, but I’ve found in the datasheets that the P II can only cache 512 MB. Does it mean that the P II will not see’ the other 512 MB to cache, but that it will still function, or will work with only 512 MB and ignore the rest?

6Can I use 3 RAM sticks out of 4?
It’s quite rare, but they’re out there.
So you’ll be fine if you have three sticks of RAM in a motherboard (and CPU) that supports triple-channel memory.
However, if you try to use three sticks of RAM on a motherboard (and CPU) that only supports dual-channel memory, it could cause all the RAM to run in single-channel mode.
Because some CPUs do this better than others, I say “might” is better.
Most modern CPUs support “flex mode,” for example, if you have three RAM sticks populating a four-slot motherboard (that doesn’t support triple-channel mode), it will simply run two of those three RAM sticks in dual-channel mode, with the remaining RAM stick in single-channel mode.
If your CPU was built in the last ten to fifteen years, it most likely supports this function, so long as your RAM can play nicely with each other, you shouldn’t have any issues running strange numbers of RAM.

Night and day makes the difference in performance between a 2GB of RAM and one with 4GB of RAM. Even on a 32-bit machine that limits the RAM to a little over 3GB, the result increase is well worth the money. Not only do applications run faster, but you can also run more applications at the same time, which is especially useful if you’re running Microsoft Office or Adobe Creative Cloud suites.
