Monitor Resolution
When it comes to resolutions, 1080p is the standard resolution for most monitors. While 1440p is almost as popular as its predecessor, 4k has mainly taken over the horizon recently. The difference between all of these screen sizes can be confusing. So, let’s focus on the most popular ones — 1080p vs 4K.
Running a 1080p resolution will allow you to save money or if you prefer, will allow you to get a 144hz or even 240Hz monitor which isn’t yet possible with 4k(or just extremely expensive). The downside is that your monitor quality isn’t nearly as good as a 4K Monitor.
Running a 4k monitor will improve the color & image quality substantially, however, it will not allow you to get higher than 60Hz(As far as we know, unless there’s some extremely expensive version on the market already). These are often far more expensive than 1080p monitors & require far stronger GPUs.
Essentially we suggest going with a 1080p for your main gaming monitor if you play competitive online games so you can take advantage of higher Refresh Rates, and 4k for monitors where you wish to play games where FPS aren’t an issue / Not extremely competitive games or a monitor where you are going to watch movies / series / videos.
Monitor Refresh Rate
The refresh rate is the number of times a monitor displays all the information on a single screen. The refresh rate of a computer display determines how smoothly an image is displayed, essentially, a high refresh rate provides a smoother gaming experience which equals better performance. Lower refresh rates produce laggy gameplay.
60Hz is the cheapest and recommended for a side screen that you will not use often for gaming. (If you use it for apps like discord, chrome and so on it’s fine)
144Hz and 240Hz are recommended for your main gaming screen if you play competitive games.
Benefits of 4 Screen Setup
Quad setups are amazing for gamers who want the ultimate gaming experience. They allow you to see more of your game environment and be able to play in a wider field of view, which is perfect if you’re playing first person shooters or racing games. The increased number of screens can also help with multitasking by allowing the user to have more than one program open at once without feeling cramped within any single window.
Downsides of 4 Screen Setup
The downsides of this type of setup can be that they are more expensive than single or dual setups, which makes them not ideal for some gamers who want to save on costs. Also if you have a game with a wide field view in the first person (such as an FPS) then it might feel like too much space and make maneuvering difficult because all four screens will show different views at times.
