This is a question we often get from our readers when they’re thinking of setting up their own custom build. A lot of people do not know the answer to this question.

Do motherboard screws come with the case?

Yes! Screws do come with the case and not with the motherboard. However, if you buy a motherboard with M.2 Support that specific screw should come with the motherboard and not with the case!

It’s a good idea to keep them in the same place, so you don’t lose them. They can be small and easy to lose if they’re not kept together.

If you do happen to misplace or lose your screws, don’t worry! You can purchase replacement screws at most computer hardware stores. Just make sure that the screws are the right size for your motherboard. There are different sizes of screws depending on the type of case and motherboard you have.

It’s also important to note that although rare, some cases do not come with any screws at all. In these cases, you will need to purchase screws separately. Be sure to check your case specifications before purchasing any additional hardware.

Do you need all motherboard screws?

No, you do not need all the screws. In fact, in most cases, you only need six screws to install the motherboard into the case. The other screws are for extra support or if you’re using a backplate with your motherboard or in case you lose some.

If you’re using a backplate, then you will also need four screws to attach the plate to the case. It’s important to use these screws in addition to the six screws that hold the motherboard in place. This will provide extra support and keep your motherboard from moving around inside the case.

Make sure that when you’re tightening down the screws, you don’t overdo it! You don’t want to strip any of the threads on either the screw or hole. This can make it difficult to remove them later on or could cause damage to the motherboard.

If you’re still not sure how many screws you need, be sure to check your User Manual. This will provide specific instructions on how to install your motherboard and what screws are necessary. If all else fails, contact the manufacturer of your motherboard for more help. They should be able to guide you in the right direction!

How do you screw a motherboard into a case?

There are multiple ways to do this, so don’t worry if you feel a little lost!

First of all, make sure that the area where your motherboard will be installed is clean. Do not do anything before it’s completely dust-free and there aren’t any cables in the way.

Next, place your motherboard on top of the case with its ports facing towards you. You should see an edge connector at one end of the board. This will have pins or small metal prongs sticking out from each side.. These connect directly into holes located on either side of a notch in your computer case.

Don’t worry if the motherboard doesn’t fit perfectly, just do your best to line it up correctly. You can always do a test run without installing the motherboard into the case first! Just make sure that you don’t have any loose items nearby as they could easily get damaged from being jostled around during testing.

Now take your screws and screw them down using either an Allen key or Phillips head driver. If you’re using more than one screw (for extra support), be sure to place each one on opposite sides of your motherboard port connection area. This will provide excellent stability for your computer once completed!

If you’ve got everything lined up properly, then tighten down the screws evenly in small amounts until they’re all firmly in place. Again, do not overdo it or you could strip the screws!

Once everything is tight, reattach any cables that were previously disconnected and give your computer a test run. If it boots up successfully, then congratulations! You’ve just completed your first motherboard installation!

If you’re still having trouble or are unsure of any steps involved, be sure to consult your motherboard’s User Manual for more detailed instructions. And if that still doesn’t help, don’t hesitate to reach out to the manufacturer for support. They’ll be more than happy to assist you!

Do you need washers for the motherboard?

No, you do not need washers.

If you do decide to use them though, they will help keep your screws in place and lower any chances of stripping or damaging holes on either end of the board. You don’t want anything slipping out while installing so having these extra precautions is always a good idea!

Can I put any motherboard in any case?

Generally no, but this is a question that doesn’t have a straightforward answer.

Some cases do come with specific screws and measurements, so it’s always best to check with both the case and motherboard manufacturers beforehand. Otherwise, you may end up with an incompatible system or damage your hardware.

In general, most mATX motherboards will fit into an ATX case and vice versa. However, there are some variations so it’s always smart to do your research ahead of time! And if you’re still not sure what you need, contact the support team for either your motherboard or computer case for more detailed instructions. They’ll be more than happy to help!
